Cairo, Egypt – March 8, 2026: Tetra Pak Egypt Area received the Athar Award for Circular Economy & Recycling, one of Egypt’s most prestigious recognitions for sustainability and social impact. Organized by CSR Egypt and now in its 2nd edition, the Athar Awards celebrate organizations and partnerships that leave a tangible “Athar” (impact) on society and the environment in support of Egypt’s Vision 2030.
At the heart of this recognition is Tetra Pak’s commitment to “Protect What’s Good”—a purpose that guides every innovation and embeds sustainability across its operations. This vision is reflected in the company’s strategic sustainability roadmap in Egypt, which began in 2023 with pilot projects conducted alongside ZeroCarbon and Environ, to collect 200 tons of Used Beverage Cartons (UBC) which delivered promising results. The same year, a full study was carried out with CID on both the formal and informal sectors, laying the foundation for scalable collection systems.
Building on these insights, a full-scale pilot targeting 500 tons was launched in 2024, followed by the activation of collection efforts in partnership with Uniboard. This collaboration culminated in the establishment of Egypt’s first dedicated UBC recycling facility in Sadat City, backed by an investment of EGP 170 million and an annual recycling capacity of 8,000 tons. By 2025, collection efforts had accelerated significantly, reaching 3,555 tons of UBC, demonstrating measurable progress toward a circular economy in Egypt.
Building on this infrastructure, Tetra Pak launched the “Dawar El3elba Tdorlak” UBC campaign in 2025. In collaboration with Beyti – an Almarai Subsidiary, Juhayna, and Uniboard, the initiative successfully engaged consumers through the Bekia app, doubling collection volumes between October 2025 and January 2026.

These local achievements mirror Tetra Pak’s global sustainability strides. In 2024, the company reduced value-chain greenhouse gas emissions by 25% (since 2019) and increased renewable energy use in operations to 94%. With a global investment of €42 million in collection and recycling infrastructure, Tetra Pak continues to protect resources and reduce food waste across the 178 billion packages it delivers worldwide.
The Athar Award underscores Tetra Pak Egypt’s leadership, proving that four and a half decades of innovation and collaboration can deliver a truly lasting legacy.
